September 24, 2010
China Telecom recently launched 300,000 Android Smartphones provided by Huawei and ZTE, in a bid to tap the burgeoning demand for Smartphones in China, the chinabyte.com reported on September 20. ZTE's Smartphone, dubbed the N600, will account for 80% of the total mobile phones purchased, and the remaining 20% will be Huawei C8500 Android Smartphones. Operated based on the Android 2.1 OS, these two Smartphones will be priced below 1,000 RMB (US$148.9; US$1 = 6.7RMB). It is expected that these Smartphones will be poised to hit the market in early October during China's National Day holiday starting from October 1, according again to the same source.

On the heels of the decision made by China Unicom in 2009, China Telecom also entered into a strategic agreement with the 3C chain retailer Best Buy, under which Best Buy will sell China Telecom's 3G mobile phones, data cards, mobile phone/mobile service bundles, and 3G internet services through its pan-China outlets, the Sina News reported on September 21. China Telecom stated that its outlets in Best Buy not only will promote and exhibit new phone products and terminals but also will provide bundled plans, with an aim to provide one stop shopping service to customers.
